2026 GLOBAL PRIZE

Photography 4 Humanity and Fotografiska Launch Global Open Call: HOME

Photography 4 Humanity, in partnership with the world-renowned photography museum Fotografiska, has launched HOME, a global open call inviting photographers everywhere to explore one of the most universal—and most fragile—ideas of our time. In a world shaped by climate disruption, conflict, migration, and displacement, HOME asks emerging artists to capture what home means today: a place of safety, belonging, identity, memory, or loss. Presented with global partner United Natons Human Rights, submissions are open March 12 through July 12, 2026.

Selected photographs will be exhibited at United Nations Headquarters in New York on Human Rights Day, December 10, 2026, in Gallery A—one of the UN’s most prominent public spaces—where diplomats, global leaders, and international visitors will encounter the work. The exhibition, guest curated by legendary documentary photographer James Nachtwey, will also be shared globally through UN.org, bringing the meaning of home into the heart of the international human rights conversation.

SEEKING THE BEST CLIMATE JUSTICE PHOTOGRAPHY

The 2025 Global Contest championed the cause of climate justice, recognizing that climate change is not merely an environmental challenge but a profound human rights issue. We sought compelling images that capture the human face of the escalating climate crisis - climate refugees, the young and the elderly, the disabled and injured, the impoverished, Indigenous and island communities, and women bearing disproportionate burdens. Alongside these powerful portrayals, we celebrated the resilience and determination of climate champions - those advocating for change and those working tirelessly to mitigate and reverse the effects of this global emergency.

Photography 4 Humanity is an international initiative created with global partner United Nations Human Rights, that calls on photographers around the world to bring to life the fight for human rights. Highlighting the most compelling imagery — illustrating courage, despair, hope, injustice, compassion, human rights failures or victories in ways small and large — the images serve to inspire people to personally get involved and to take a stand for human rights.

Photography 4 Humanity is the photography platform for the Right Here, Right Now Global Climate Alliance. Since the Global Climate Alliance was lunched at COP26 in Glasgow by United Nations Human Rights, and supporters that included Leonardo DiCaprio and Quincy Jones, it has emerged as the largest climate justice movement in the world.

GLOBAL PRIZE COMPETITION

At the heart of the initiative is a global call to action inviting both amateur and professional photographers to submit images that illuminate the dignity, resilience, and lived reality of human rights around the world. Through powerful visual storytelling, Photography 4 Humanity elevates images that help the world see — and feel — the universal promise of human rights.

In 2026, the Global Prize Recipient, along with the top 10 Finalists and 20 Honorable Mentions, will have their photographs exhibited at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on December 10 — UN Human Rights Day — in Gallery A, one of the UN’s most prominent public exhibition spaces.

Their work will be viewed by diplomats, UN leadership, and representatives of Member States from around the world, placing these images at the center of the global human rights conversation. The selected photographs will also be shared globally across UN.orgFotografiska, and Photography 4 Humanity, ensuring the stories behind the images reach an international audience.
